Student Support Team — Introduction
Our Vision & Principles
The Student Support Team of our school is dedicated to implementing the "Whole School Approach" to catering for student diversity advocated by the Education Bureau (EDB). Guided by the five core principles of "Early Identification", "Early Intervention", "Whole School Approach", "Home-School Co-operation", and "Cross-sector Collaboration", we provide appropriate and comprehensive support for students with diverse learning needs.
Through the "Three-tier Support Model", we tailor our teaching to suit students' individual needs based on their learning, social, and emotional development, unleashing their potential and fostering an inclusive and caring school culture.
The "Three-tier Support Model" Framework
Key Objectives
- Differentiated Teaching & Potential Unleashed: Provide appropriate guidance according to students' abilities and learning needs, helping them build learning confidence and actively unleash their potential.
- Consolidating Foundation & Inspiring Interest: Conduct diversified support programs to help students overcome learning barriers, enhancing subject competency and intrinsic learning motivation.
- Positive Growth & Holistic Development: Cultivate positive values and resilience in students, guiding them to adopt a positive and optimistic attitude towards life.
- Inclusive Culture & Peer Support: Promote an inclusive school environment, encouraging mutual care and support among peers to build a harmonious and warm learning community.
Major Scope of Work
- Early Identification & Assessment Accommodations: Establish a standardized referral and assessment mechanism for early identification of students with special educational needs. Meanwhile, based on professional recommendations from Educational Psychologists, appropriate assessment accommodations (e.g., extended examination time, extra-time, pull-out examination room, speech-to-text/reading allowance, or enlarged test papers) are provided to reflect learning performance fairly.
- Resource Co-ordination & Utilization: Optimize the use of the EDB's "Learning Support Grant" and various special funding to introduce external professional services and high-quality educational resources.
- Multi-Disciplinary Team Collaboration: Convene regular multi-disciplinary case conferences involving Educational Psychologists, Speech Therapists, Social Workers, and subject teachers to formulate support plans and review intervention efficacy.
- Professional Teacher Development: Organize school-based professional development seminars and workshops to enhance staff members' professional knowledge and skills in catering for student diversity.
- Close Home-School Partnership: Maintain close communication with parents through case conferences, parents' meetings, and regular contact to co-create support strategies and foster home-school synergy.
